HOW TO BECOME AN ACH VOLUNTEER

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Alberta Children's Hospital. To express your interest in volunteering, please submit this form.

The Alberta Children's Hospital has 550 volunteers who contribute 56,000 hours helping in 45 different program areas. Some volunteers feed, bathe and cuddle children. Others work in outpatient clinics, play areas or the gift shop.

Who Volunteers at ACH

As important members of the health-care team, ACH volunteers extend and enhance the quality of care and service provided by our Alberta Health Services staff.

What's Required

All volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment to the hospital of one year, working a set shift once a week. A shift is usually three to four hours long.

The Process

If you're interested in volunteering at ACH, here is what to do:

  • Fill out the online registration form posted here. The form is deactivated when our registration needs have been met.
  • You will receive a reply by e-mail from Alberta Children's Hospital Volunteer Resources.
  • You will be asked to supply three character references.
  • Your references will be checked as required.
  • A criminal records check will be conducted.
  • Occupational Health will conduct a communicable disease assessment.
  • You will be placed in a program, depending upon the current needs of the hospital and your own preferences.
  • You will be asked for a commitment of one year coming in once a week for two to four hours. The length of your shift will depend on your assigned program.
  • You will then be welcomed to the team, oriented and supervised by the capable staff of the Alberta Children's Hospital.
